Get to know: Coach Luc

Q: How would you describe your coaching style and the way you connect with your players? Luc: I would say energetic. I like to motivate and be goal driven towards what the players are looking to achieve, and deliver a lesson based on their goals. But generally a very high energy coaching style, and I like to have a laugh as well.

Q: If you could have a theme song play every time you walk onto the court, what would it be? Luc: Payback - James Brown

Q: What's your pet peeve when it comes to coaching tennis?

Luc: Eiffel Tower stance, when players are on their toes hitting a ball, standing too tall and they don’t really want to get low, or being low energy and not moving.

Q: What is a highlight of your coaching journey so far?

Luc: A recent highlight was when we were watching the Roland Garros men’s final together before our Monday morning performance class. All the coaches were lined up watching the screen and all the kids were lined up in front of the reception watching the screen too. And once we got out on court everyone was tracking the scores on their phones. It was a cool moment. Or just the other day I got invited by one of my students to go see a real live rocket launch!

Q: What do you like the most about being a part of the Tennis Life team?

Luc: I like the team culture here, everyone is very involved and wants to look after everyone and help each other out as well. And we try to get to know everyone as well beyond tennis. It’s very social and we’re always trying to plan something to do outside of work.

Q: When you're not on court, what's something you like to do in your spare time?

Luc: I want to get back into playing some music. I played the Alto Sax when I was 9 or 10 years old and it’s just been sitting in the corner of my room gathering dust. Otherwise, I like to go to the gym, play a bit of my own tennis and go out to dinner with my friends and just LIFE!

Q: Who would be in your dream doubles/mixed doubles team (celebrity or pro)?

Luc: Roger Federer (he’s my idol growing up). Or Redfoo (Stefan Gordy from LMFAO) who’s just launched his professional tennis career.

Q: If you could spend a week with a professional player and their team, who would it be and why?

Luc: A Russian player’s team like Medvedev or Sabalinka’s team looks quite fun, or again my idol Federer, just to gain all his knowledge.
