How would you describe your coaching style and the way you connect with your players?
Kay: I coach with a military style (laughs). First by whipping them into good physical form, then they must learn to have a good understanding of the game of tennis. And lastly and most importantly, I teach discipline and focus on court. Once they master their discipline, they will be able to have more fun and control in their tennis.
If you could have a theme song play every time you walk onto the court, what would it be?
Kay: Drake - Started From the Bottom
What is a highlight of your coaching journey so far?
Kay: Watching my students win trophies at tournaments for U10, U12, U14 and U16 grades. And also seeing some of them make it onto the national team. Proud all round!
What do you like the most about being a part of the Tennis Life team?
Kay: Working at a place where I can provide high quality tennis coaching and being able to teach my students what the concept of the game of tennis is.
When you're not on court, what's something you like to do in your spare time?
Kay: I sleep, eat, travel and play basketball.
Who would be in your dream doubles/mixed doubles team (celebrity or pro)?
Kay: Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios!
If you could spend a week with a professional player and their team, who would it be and why?
Kay: I want to go and spend a week with the professional team I trained with in Taiwan when I was young; and relive training all out 24/7 and just live and breathe tennis. Otherwise, Rafael Nadal’s team, because he plays well!
